Spring 2019 Fee Supervisor Training Workshops

Attend a Fee Supervisors Training Workshop to learn the nuts and bolts of Recreation Fee Management. This engaging and interactive course will be offered in two locations in FY19:

  • March 12-15, 2019 National Conservation Training Center, Shepherdstown, WV (CANCELLED due to the prolonged government shutdown. If we are able to reschedule we will post a new date here)
  • April 9-12, 2019 Intermountain Regional Office, Lakewood, CO

The workshop includes 6 hours of self-paced online activities and 28 hours of classroom instruction. Sharing and discussion are a large part of the learning experience. Instruction will be provided by the WASO Fee Program and current field staff to bring a depth of park fee program experience to the workshop.

Course subjects are drawn from the essential competencies developed for fee supervisors and RM 22A: Recreation Fee Collection, including:

  • Establishing and managing fee programs
  • Utilizing fee authorities and the various types of fees
  • Analyzing business practices, cost of collection, and internal controls within a fee program
  • Collecting and accounting for fees
  • Issuing Interagency Passes
  • Preparing remittance reports and deposits
  • Reconciling fee revenue and deposits
  • Selecting, training and supervising employees
  • Making effective visitor contacts and disseminating information

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the workshop, employees are able to:

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to improve fee operations and provide excellent customer service to our visitors
  • Describe professional fee collection operations, including application and implementation of appropriate fee collection methods
  • Articulate the contribution of the fee collection program to the NPS mission
  • Build productive relationships with fee program staff from other parks, regions, and WASO

Target Audience

Recreation fee program leads, supervisors, and managers are encouraged to attend. Priority is given to new supervisors and fee staff that have not attended in the last 5 years.


To register, you must enroll through DOI Talent, receive supervisory approval, and submit a nomination form by the registration deadline to be considered. Due to high demand, all applicants are placed on a wait list until the coordinator selects the participants.
