What It Is
A collaborative agreement in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. It includes the agencies of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS), the National Park Service (NPS), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) that promise to combine the groups’ considerable skill set and knowledge base to provide stewardship for America’s Wilderness.
The three main themes are:
- Protect wilderness resources
- Connect people with their wilderness heritage
- Foster excellence in wilderness leadership & coordination
Why It Matters
This is an important agreement that brought all of America’s preeminent wilderness preservation agencies together and allowed them to create a focused list of goals for the future. While all of the groups have a passionate interest in keeping the natural world as pure as possible, they also each have different specialties that can be used in tandem.
