Horace Albright Training Center

The Horace Albright Training Center (HOAL) hosts over 700 new NPS employees every year, introducing them to NPS history, culture and practices. HOAL is dedicated to fulfilling the vision of our namesake, Horace Albright in his wish to “not let the Service become just another executive government bureau; keep it youthful, vigorous, clean and strong.”

The Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC) offers the Preservation and Skills Training (PAST) Program and project-based training for interested individuals who would like to learn more in the following areas:

Western Center for Historic Preservation

The Western Center for Historic Preservation, located in Grand Teton National Park, is the historic preservation training arm of the Vanishing Treasures Program. The training center offers preservation workshops focused on technical skills, preservation theory, and field methodology for traditionally-built cultural resources.

National Center for Preservation Technology and Training

The National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT) undertakes research at its in-house laboratories and in partnerships with universities and laboratories around the U.S. NCPTT labs include the National Park Service’s richest store of scientific equipment specifically designed to study environmental impacts on cultural materials.
