Recreation Fee Standard Position Description (SPD) Implementation Training for Employees and Supervisors

Overview

The Directorate of Business Services and the Directorate of Workforce and Inclusion are pleased to announce the issuance of new Standard Position Descriptions (SPDs) for National Park Service (NPS) Recreation Fee Program positions. New SPDs are being issued for the NPS Recreation Fee Program in order to provide a clear career path from GS-03 entry-level positions to GS-13 management positions. This effort was launched in recognition of the essential role Recreation Fee employees play in the NPS and the need for them to have a logical career path to achieve success. The SPDs were developed by an Advisory Work Group made up of a team of Recreation Fee program managers, subject-matter-experts, park personnel, and classification specialists. The SPDs are intended to accomplish the following objectives:

  • Allow supervisors to more easily recruit nonsupervisory career ladder positions (e.g. GS-03/04/05/06/07) within the NPS Recreation Fee Program.
  • Improve the retention of Recreation Fee Program positions by providing internal career ladder opportunities within parks.
  • Save time and money spent on the recruitment and retention of Recreation Fee Program positions.
  • Make it easier for employees to understand the paramount knowledge competencies for Recreation Fee Program positions at different grade levels.
  • Make it easier for supervisors to assign and remove collateral duties to their Recreation Fee Program positions.
