NPS Mission

The NPS Mission

Mission statements are essential for an organization.  Mission statements describe the fundamental reason(s) an organization exists and what it seeks to accomplish.  A mission statement helps the employees of an organization to understand the goal of their work and how they fit. In this regard, it is important to know the mission of their organization, office, work group, and so on.

It’s just as important for NPS employees to know our mission, what we strive to do.

The NPS mission states:

“The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park Service System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.  The Park Services cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resources conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.”

What words stand out to you in this statement?  How does your work align with the mission?

  1. My work enables my park to obtain vital operating funds, which are used to subsidize the money the park acquires through budget allocations. These funds are key to infrastructure improvements, maintenance, and in helping to fund the 25% of our park’s personnel costs that are not met through budgetary funds. This allows the park to continue to promote the natural and cultural resources of Cape Cod to our 4 million visitors each year.

  2. As an Indigenous Youth working with the Ancestral Lands Individual Placement position. Land preservation and dedication is of utmost importance to me. I feel it is necessary for the existence of the NPS and that they continue their mission.
