Overview
Heritage Documentation Programs (HDP) administers the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), and Historic American Landscape Survey (HALS). HABS/HAER/HALS have, combined, documented more than 40,000 historic sites through photographs, measured drawings, and written reports. This documentation is housed at the Library of Congress and makes up the largest archive consisting of historic architectural, engineering, and landscape documentation. HDP conducts a nationwide documentation program in partnership with state and local governments, private industry, professional societies, universities, preservation groups, and other Federal agencies.
