Overview
The Civil War Trust is a non-profit organization devoted to the preservation of America’s endangered Civil War battlefields. Using conservation easements and ownership transfers, the Trust helps preserve battlefield lands. Approximately 20% of the lands where Civil War battles took place are currently preserved by non-profit organizations and local, state, and federal agencies. Another 20% has already been developed for other uses. Through land preservation strategies like those above and public education and outreach, the Trust seeks to protect these lands and the heritage they represent, as well as create open spaces for the public.
