The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) was formed in 1879, making it the oldest archeological society in the United States. AIA promotes archeological inquiry and public understanding of the material record of the human past to foster an appreciation of diverse cultures and our shared humanity. The AIA supports archeologists, their research and its dissemination, and the ethical practice of archeology. The AIA educates people of all ages about the significance of archeological discovery and advocates the preservation of the world’s archeological heritage.
In addition to their annual conference, on AIA’s website you will find information on workshops, field work opportunities, grant programs, job postings, and access to the American Journal of Archaeology (AJA).
